Nominations

The Houston Chapter of HFES is now accepting nominations for leadership positions within the chapter.

Nominations start:         Immediately

Nomination deadline:     April 30th (so don’t delay)
Nominees notified:        May 4th
Election ballots sent:      May 11th
Election closed:             June 1st
New board posted:        June 8th

In order to nominate someone (or be nominated), you must be a dues-paying member of the Chapter. Both self- and peer-nominations are accepted. You can nominate as many or as few people as you like. Those nominated will be contacted prior to elections to be sure they are agreeable to holding office.

There are 4 positions for which we are accepting nominations, 3 "elect" positions for the 2009/2010 period and one two-year "Elections director" position.

  • Please note:
    - The president, treasurer, and secretary have duties during the “elect” periods (outlined below).
    - The president must be a full member of HFES.
    - You do not need to suggest nominees for each of the four positions, and self-nominations are accepted.
    - Descriptions of each of the positions may be found below.

Position Descriptions:

President-Elect. The President-Elect shall act as an understudy to the President acquainting himself/herself with the business and operations of the Chapter in preparation for assuming the duties of the Presidency. S/he shall assume the duties of the President during the President's temporary absence or in the event s/he is unable to perform his duties as determined by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Council. The President-Elect shall be a member of the Executive Council.
 
President. The President shall be the chief executive officer of the Chapter and a member of the Executive Council. S/he shall preside over meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Council. S/he shall appoint all committee chairmen not otherwise specified in these By-Laws with the advice and consent of the Executive Council.
 
Past President. The Immediate Past President shall be a member of the Executive Council. S/he shall also serve as Chapter Historian.
 
Secretary-Elect. The Secretary-Elect shall act as an understudy to the Secretary, acquainting himself/herself with the duties of the office in preparation for assuming the office. S/he shall assume the duties of the Secretary in his absence and shall be a member of the Executive Council. S/he shall prepare a summary of Chapter Activities each month and submit this summary to the editor of the Human Factors Society Bulletin.
 
Secretary. The Secretary shall keep a true and faithful record of all business meetings of the Chapter and of the Executive Council and shall be custodian of all the records and correspondence of the Chapter. The Secretary shall be a member of the Executive Council.
 
Past Secretary. The immediate Past Secretary shall be a member of the Executive Council and the Nominations and Elections Committee.
 
Treasurer-Elect. The Treasurer-Elect shall act as an understudy to the Treasurer, acquainting himself/herself or herself with the duties of the office in preparation for assuming the office. S/he shall assume the duties of the Treasurer in his absence and shall be a member of the Executive Council.
 
Treasurer. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the money and securities of the Chapter and shall keep a true and faithful record of all financial transactions. Money shall be deposited to the account of the Chapter in a bank or trust company selected by the Executive Council and shall be disbursed only upon approval by the Executive Council.
 
Past Treasurer. The immediate Past Treasurer shall be a member of the Executive Council.
 
Directors. Two Directors - at - Large shall be members of the Executive Council. One Director shall be the Chairperson of the Program Committee. One Director shall be the Chairperson of the Nominations and Elections Committee.
 
Webmaster. The HHFES Webmaster is responsible for the implementation of new content on the chapter website and maintenance of the chapter website, chapter email system, and chapter listserv system.
