President

- Nick Kelling : Nick is an Associate Professor and Director of the Human Factors Psychology Program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. In his twelve years in academia, he has collaborated with collegiate athletics, software companies, NASA, amusement parks, and zoos. His research focuses on perception and psychomotor interactions and virtual/augmented reality technology in combined education/training/entertainment environments. Nick holds PhD and MS degrees in Engineering Psychology and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech.

Treasurer

- Eric Thomas: Eric currently leads the Human Factors and Ergonomics team in the Personal Systems group at HP Inc. supporting the Industrial Design team. He has been with HP for 5 years and previously had internships in hardware and software research/design. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Texas Tech University in 2011 and his M.A. in Human Factors from The University of Houston - Clear Lake in 2015.

Secretary

- Maria Medlarz: Maria is a UX Researcher at End to End User Research. In 2015 she received a bachelor's degree from Penn State in Management Information Systems, as well as a minor in International Business. She then went on to the University of Michigan to earn a master's degree in Information Analysis and Retrieval and Human Computer Interaction.

- Christy Harper: Christy is the Principal UX Research Manager and Co-owner of End to End User Research. Prior to that she worked at HP managing a human factors research team in the personal systems group. Her area of expertise is contextual and ethnographic research and human factors research applied to new product design. She is a University of Houston-Clear Lake Distinguished Alumni, with a B.S. and M. A. in Psychology.

- Melissa Meingast: Melissa is a Master Technologist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, responsible for managing the UX and HF Research Program for the Experience Design Group. In this role she has led hundreds of user centered design research programs for products ranging from hardware to software to websites to mobile applications to SaaS, as well as managing consultancies brought on to support these efforts. Her areas of expertise include usability testing, A/B testing, contextual inquiry, card sorting, guided interviews, ethnography, and a variety of other user centered design research methodologies. Prior to becoming a program manager and corporate employee, she worked as an independent HF & UX consultant. She has a master’s degree in Human Factors Psychology from Rice University.

- Hannah Bowman: Hannah is a UX Researcher at ExxonMobil, with a primary focus in Corporate IT. Her previous role at HP Inc. was the foundation of her career. Her involvement at HP included research on a variety of HP manufactured items such as, soft goods (backpacks, sleeves, and totes), accessories, notebooks, displays, etc. Her educational background includes receiving a B.S degree in Psychology at Morehead State University in 2015 and a M.A. in Human Factors Psychology at the University of Houston - Clear Lake in 2017.

Elections Director

(Elections Director) - Dr. Claudia Ziegler Acemyan: Claudia is a human factors and safety consultant at her own consulting company. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Rice University. Dr. Acemyan’s work focuses on a range of different topics including system usability, user-centered design, environment design, safety, product/system/environment evaluations using scientific methods, advanced statistics, application of industry practice and safety standards, human error, incident analysis, warnings, stop work authority, instructions, and manuals. Dr. Acemyan completed her Ph.D. in human factors/human-computer interaction psychology at Rice University. Her education also includes a M.A. in architecture from U.C.L.A., a M. Arch. from Rice University, and B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has most recently worked at Rice University’s Institute for Global Health as the Director of Human Factors and at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (through KBRwyle) as a Human Factors Engineer, Habitability Discipline Scientist, and Subject Matter Expert. In addition, she has over a decade of research, analysis, and consulting work with Edward R. Ziegler LLC (a petroleum and natural gas engineer who is a leading consultant and expert witness in the fields he works: oil and gas; drilling rigs; and safety, design, engineering, pipeline, and regulatory work).

(Program Director) - Cynthia Rando: Cynthia is the Founder/CEO of Sophic Synergistics, LLC, a consulting firm that is focused on optimizing human performance and experience in any environment, Building Better Businesses by Design.TM. Cynthia, introduced the SOPHIC Conceptual model to the field, a model that utilizes human centered design as a business model and profitable strategy.
She has spent 17+ years in the field of Human Centered Design including 12 years at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. During this time, she provided extensive leadership to the organization addressing several critical areas in Human Factors and Human Centered design including: user interface design, ergonomics, safety and risk mitigation strategies, usability and user experience, accident investigation and root cause analysis activities. Additionally, she was instrumental in implementing several culture change initiatives and innovative solutions for the agency including: the U.S. Governments’ first use of crowdsourcing as a disruptive business model and the development of the Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation and the NASA Human Health and Performance Center.
Cynthia is a Certified Human Factors Professional and the Vice President of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Human Factors Engineering from Clemson University and an MBA from Northeastern University. She has served as an associate professor at University of Houston Clearlake providing instruction in Human Factors and Ergonomics course material. Currently, she provides Human Centered Design/Human Factors consultation to the Texas Medical Center Innovation Incubator’s medical device startup cohorts and The Texas Committee on Autonomous Systems. She also serves on the board of advisors to ORintel for Human Factors and Ergonomics (Cynthia Rando, MS, MBA, CHFP)

- Andrew Muddimer: Andrew is the UX Manager for OpenStax at Rice University. worked for Schlumberger for 20 years, he had various roles in the Human Factors and Ergonomics domain, designing oilfield equipment of all types, wherever people work, cabins, trucks, boats, rigs, anything. Most recently he has been focused on Usability of software for the Oilfield. Andrew holds a BSc from Loughborough University,UK in Human Factors. Andrew also was the Principal Ergonomist at Workplace Sense for 3 years prior to OpenStax
